Parent's Pages
Parents, this page is for you. You will find links to other helpful pages for you and your students. I will try and include information that will help you to better communicate with your child about reading and help to improve their comprehension. As always, if there is anything that I can do to help, please don't hesitate to contact me via email at any time!!
During the last quarter, the entire school was practicing the same two reading strategies. We used this saturation type instructional method with the purpose of making sure that the students knew that they could use these reading strategies with a variety of texts. The two strategies were Textbook Tour and Talking to the Text. Check out the extras pages for some helpful information for your child to practice this strategy with you and their textbook, newspaper article or even a magazine. I have also attached some information that was shared with teachers about the strategies, please feel free to use what you need.
For the second quarter, we are focusing on two new strategies in our building; Anticipation Guides and Exit Tickets. These formative assessment strategies are designed to help teachers get a quick, clear picture of which students have learned the material and which students may need an additional review or activity to help learn the skill. I encourage you to ask your child about the two new strategies and see how they are doing.
